Carl Cox Cancels Movement Festival 2025 Appearance, Jeff Mills to Headline in His Place

Techno fans in Detroit will have to wait another year to witness Carl Cox in action at Movement Festival, as the legendary DJ has officially postponed his set until 2026 due to scheduling conflicts. While this news may disappoint fans who were eager to see the British icon at Hart Plaza, Cox reassured his audience via Instagram that he remains committed to delivering an unforgettable live show when he makes his return next year.

Stepping in for Cox on Saturday, May 24, is none other than Jeff Mills, a true Detroit techno pioneer and one of the genre’s most influential figures. Mills’ legacy is deeply rooted in the city’s rich electronic music history, making him an exceptional choice to take over the Movement Day One headline slot.

In a statement, Mills expressed his excitement about performing in his hometown, emphasizing Detroit’s unique and generational connection to music:

“To be able to play in Detroit is, and has always been, a special kind of magic. It’s one of the few places in the world where anything could happen because of a higher premium of music ‘sense’ most people have, and it’s constantly being handed down from one generation to the next.”

Movement 2025, set for May 24-26 at Detroit’s Hart Plaza, is already shaping up to be an unmissable edition. The 19th installment of the festival will feature a stacked lineup, including Anfisa Letyago, Boys Noize, Carl Craig, Charlotte de Witte, Jamie xx, John Summit, Patrick Topping, Sara Landry, Mau P, The Blessed Madonna, and many more. GA and VIP tickets are still available—don’t miss your chance to be part of one of the most legendary techno events in the world.
